NATURE RESERVES
Réserve Naturelle de LaconnexIn 1960, gravel extraction began on the site, leading to colonization by rare pioneer species, attracting naturalists. After mining ended in 1968, the land became an illegal dump. Seven years later, the owner sold it to the State of Geneva, with Pro Natura Geneva helping purchase it. The Laconnex nature reserve was created, featuring pioneer zones, but these quickly became overgrown. To preserve marshland species, ongoing management keeps the reserve open, ensuring it remains a refuge for diverse wildlife in the Geneva Champagne.
