Hidden beneath the quiet landscapes of Geneva’s countryside lies an unexpected burst of colour and creativity. Away from galleries and city streets, a concrete canal in Satigny has transformed into a living canvas, where layers of graffiti evolve over time. Raw, vibrant, and temporary, it’s a place that rewards curiosity—and won’t be here forever.
Tucked away along the Route de Satigny, the Canal de Satigny graffiti walls offer one of the most unexpected urban art experiences in the Geneva countryside.
This striking open-air gallery runs alongside the Nant d'Avril, a modest waterway that was partially channelled in the 1950s for flood control between Chemin du Château-des-Bois and Route de Meyrin.

What began as functional infrastructure has gradually evolved into a vibrant canvas. Since around 2014, local artists such as Nadib Bandi, Clyse, Bles, and Hero have transformed the concrete walls into a dynamic, ever-changing exhibition of colour and style. Each visit feels different—new pieces appear, older ones fade or are painted over, and the space continuously reinvents itself.
Accessing the canal adds a sense of exploration. Discreet ladders, often hidden in the bushes, lead down into the channel, inviting visitors to step into this raw, immersive environment. Once below, you’re surrounded by towering walls layered with bold murals, tags, and large-scale works stretching along the corridor.
Despite its unofficial status, the site has become a well-known local spot for street art enthusiasts. However, its future is limited: the graffiti walls are scheduled for removal by 2030 as part of a renaturation project for the Nant d’Avril, aimed at restoring the stream to a more natural state.
For now, the Canal de Satigny remains a unique intersection of industrial history and creative expression—worth visiting while its vivid, ephemeral artwork still exists.

How to access: The easiest entry point is just off Route de Satigny, where the road passes over the Nant d'Avril (April stream). A path runs alongside the canal. As you walk along the path, look for metal ladders descending into the channel, often partially concealed by vegetation.
The area is reachable by public transport (TPG line 71; bus stop 'ZIMEYSA Ouest') via nearby Meyrin or Satigny.
As the site is not officially developed for visitors, sturdy footwear and caution are recommended when entering and moving through the canal.
