SAUVERNY TO VERSOIX ALONG THE VERSOIX RIVER

This superb riverside walk begins at Sauverny Douane, where a small staircase beside the bridge leads down to the banks of the Versoix River and into the peaceful woodland of the Combes Chapuis Nature Reserve. Shortly after entering the forest, an information board introduces the reserve and its rich natural environment. From here, take the path to the right of the board and continue along the trail closest to the river for most of the route.

The first section of the walk is particularly attractive. Near the start lies the tranquil Sauverny Pond, after which numerous small paths lead down to the river's edge. The ever-changing character of the river makes this a fascinating stretch to explore, with the river varying in width, depth, and colour as it winds through the woodland. Pebble banks provide inviting places to pause, relax, or even paddle in the cool water on a warm day. A series of small cascades adds to the charm of the route, their flowing waters creating a soothing soundtrack to the walk.

The woodland path eventually reaches Pont de Bossy (Bossy Bridge). A short slope leads out of the forest, bringing you to the bridge on your right and a small car park on your left. Continue along the car park and look for a narrow opening in the trees, which marks the continuation of the riverside trail.

The route follows the left bank of the river, passing an infantry bunker, towards the hamlet of La Bâtie. Upon reaching a sign on a tree indicating a dead end, leave the woodland on the left and follow the dirt track of Chemin du Bois-Baron across open countryside into the hamlet.

After crossing the river on a small bridge in the centre of the hamlet, the walk re-enters the forest and descends once more to the water. After passing a sluice gate, the river takes on an almost canal-like appearance as the trail crosses to the opposite bank.

Continuing downstream, the path emerges near the Richelien hydroelectric station on Route de l'Étraz. After crossing the road, the trail skirts a firefighters' training ground before passing beneath the motorway and entering the Les Gravines Nature Reserve. This final section offers more beautiful riverside scenery, with numerous pebble banks and excellent views of the river.

Towards the end of the reserve, enchanting cascades tumble over the rocks, creating a particularly picturesque spot where walkers can sit beside the water and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. After leaving the reserve, the trail leads into the urban landscape of Versoix, bringing this magnificent riverside walk to a close.
