DirectionsFrom Russin train station, traverse the railway tracks at the level crossing and go straight on the road ahead of you, Chemin des Christophes. The road curves round to the left then keep going until you see a green panel on your right which is at the side of a metal barrier - it indicates ‘Teppes de Verbois’. Go around the metal barrier and head along the track. Just before the track veers to the left, you will see a narrow trail leading off it on the right, as well as another green panel at the side of it. Head downhill on this trail. Follow it through the opening in the trees to arrive at edge of Etang des Bouvières (Bouvières pond). After your visit of the pond, go back through the opening in the trees and take the trail to the right. Follow the trail until you reach a T-junction; here you need to turn right, and then after a few metres, turn right again. You are now on a trackwhich runs alongside the river Rhône - the river can be seen through the bushes. You may notice, as you walk along, a couple of trails that lead off to the right. The first one takes you back to the Etang des Bouvières. Further along, the second one takes you to the Guignette observation hut that looks out over Etang Paul Géroudet, which is about a 5-minute walk away. If you decide to follow this trail, turn left after reaching the electricity pylon to access the pond. Then after your visit, retrace your steps back to the initial path.
Etang des Bouvières
Etang Burnier
As you continue on the track alongside the river, you will come to three observation huts - Gravelot hut which looks out over Etang Paul Géroudet, La Loutre hut which looks out over Etang Jacques Burnier, then Castor hut which looks out over Etang Maurice Blanchet (note that the track bends right then a few metres further along, the third hut is situated on the right). Tip - at the point where the track bends to the right, look straight ahead and you will notice a narrow trail that leads into the woods. You can take this trail to reach the pebble bank of the river Allondon where it merges with the river Rhône. A wonderfully peaceful spot for sunbathing and taking a dip in the water, against a backdrop of cliffs and intense green foliage.Where the track bends right, you will see red cycling signs on a post - follow the track until you reach a viaduct. Pass under the viaduct and take the track on the right - a yellow walking sign here indicates the direction. You will follow the railway lines but at a higher elevation, then the track bears slightly left and uphill. When you get to a road, turn left and soon after you will enter Russin village. Here, you are rewarded with a lovely view for your efforts on this short but steep climb! On this road, look out for house number 23 as you need to turn right along the left side of this house. Take the turning, passing some chicken coups. Walk through the vineyards, down to a row of trees and follow the stone track to the left. You will be able to see Russin train station in the distance. Continue on the track then when it meets up with the paved road, go right to reach the train station.
