We set off from Lancy-Pont-Rouge train station, stepping out onto Route de Grand-Lancy before crossing at the lights and turning onto Chemin des Vignes. It didn’t take long before we left the streets behind—crossing a small wooden bridge and slipping into a riverside path. From there, we followed the water, sticking to the trail closest to the Aire River as it wound through woodland. The path felt calm and natural, punctuated by small bridges and signposts pointing us towards Bernex. Eventually, the trees opened up and we emerged onto quieter country roads, with fields stretching out around us. We continued along Chemin des Verjus before turning towards Chemin du Pont-du-Centenaire, where signs guided us along the edge of La Gavotte animal park. Soon after, we were back by the river, following a peaceful path, occasionally crossing roads and bridges.

Joining the Promenade de l’Aire, the walk became even more scenic. We passed fountains, information boards, and wide open stretches, eventually ducking under the Pont de Lully (Lully bridge) and continuing alongside greenhouses. One highlight was crossing the wooden Passerelle des Bis, which added a fun perspective over the river. Not long after, we veered off onto a smaller trail that brought us right back to the river’s edge. This quieter stretch felt more adventurous, with the path hugging the water as it led us towards the French-Swiss border near Perly.Heading slightly uphill, we were rewarded with sweeping views over the Bernex countryside, including a glimpse of Signal de Bernex in the distance. The final section took us through vineyards along Chemin des Vignes—another scenic part of the walk—before making our way towards Perly-Douane.It was a walk that had a bit of everything: riverside tranquillity, shaded woodland, open fields and wide views—ending right at the edge of Switzerland.
