NANT D'AVRIL AND SATIGNY FORESTS

We began at Satigny train station. Exiting the station from the end of platform 2, we followed A short passage then turned left onto a road with allotments on our left and homes on our right. At the end of the road, a barrier directly opposite marked the beginning of a trail crossing a field — this was where the walk truly began.

Following the trail, we reached the edge of the forest, entered, turned right, then crossed a bridge over the Nant d’Avril (April Stream). From there, we followed the peaceful woodland path alongside the water, crossing several more bridges and passing through shaded forest scenery filled with birdsong and the sound of flowing water. Eventually, we emerged from the forest onto a road in the small hamlet of Peney.

We continued a short distance along the road before turning left, then shortly afterwards took another left following a yellow hiking sign pointing towards the vineyards. Following this track, we walked towards the sloping vineyard landscapes that characterise the Satigny countryside.

The trail alongside the vines offered delightful vineyard views before leading us once again into the woodland of the Grands-Bois (Great Woods), where lucky walkers might even spot deer among the trees. Deep in the forest, a signposted trail towards “Satigny” led us left onto a smaller uphill woodland path. We continued through the quiet forest until we emerged beside an open field with beautiful views towards Satigny.

From there, we followed the trail back towards Satigny, once again entering the woods. Descending a set of steps, we returned to the Nant d’Avril before climbing the same steps we had descended at the beginning of the walk. Leaving the forest behind us, we simply retraced our steps back to Satigny station, completing a charming and scenic countryside loop.
