A glimpse into Avully's past and present:
Avully was home to just 305 residents in 1850, growing steadily to 1,736 by 2000. Its history stretches back to 1220, when lands were granted by the Counts of Geneva. The area later came under France in 1601 before gaining communal status in 1800.
Avully embraced the Protestant Reformation in 1536 and established its own parish in 1838. Traditionally rooted in agriculture and winemaking, it also hosted a hydroelectric plant from 1925 and once operated a river port. Population growth accelerated after the 1970s with increased urban migration.
Today, Avully is recognized on the Swiss Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites as a site of national importance.
