The southernmost commune of Geneva, Soral borders France, between Saint-Julien-en-Genevois and Viry.
Occupied since Roman times, it was owned by the families of Viry and Rougemont in the Middle Ages.
Soral was part of the Bernese bailiwick in 1536, then returned to Savoy until 1816. It formed part of Avusy-Laconnex-Soral from 1816-1847 and became a separate commune in 1850.
The village remained isolated until 1840, when the road to Geneva improved.
Today, it's an agricultural commune with a focus on cereals.
Soral is listed on the Swiss Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites as a site of national importance.
