Mont Salève Located just over the Suisse border near Veyrier is this iconic landmark that can be seen from almost everywhere in the Geneva Canton.
Reaching a height of 1,379 metres, the Salève mountain offers a spectacular panorama over the Geneva Canton, Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), the Jura mountains, Lake Annecy and Mont Blanc.
Accessible by the Téléphérique du Salève (cable car), by car or if you are feeling sporty, various hiking routes lead up the mountain.
There is the Vertiges restaurant, Café 1100 and a climbing wall, all at the top station, and further along the plateau, the Tibetan Temple and l'Observatoire restaurant.

HISTORIC BUILDINGS
Château El MasrThe Château El Masr, constructed in 1883-84 by Henri Bourrit and Jacques Simmler for Charles Flood, features a tall, crenellated square keep with four levels, sitting atop a base. It is flanked by an observation turret and two asymmetrical wings.
The tallest wing contains a noble chapel with large Gothic windows and the sponsor's monogram. A sculpted Baroque-inspired porch, accessible via a double-flight staircase, adds to its charm. The architecture reflects a neo-medieval Scottish style, with walls made of Meillerie stone.
At the property’s corner stands a romantic medieval tower, built in tuff by architect Ami Demierre in 1865.
The château served as the setting for the 1967 film L'Inconnu de Shandigor.

NATURE RESERVES
Les Iles d'ArveThe Iles d'Arve - a protected natural zone of ponds, along with the Bois de Vernaz (Vernaz woods), make up this nature reserve and covers an area of 35 hectares.
The Eurasian beaver, the green frog and 17 species of dragonflies can be found here.
The nature reserve is located on the French side of the border with Veyrier.

Gouille Marion Nature ReserveSituated in the Bois de Veytay (Veytay Woods) is the nature reserve Gouille Marion, which includes a large pond and is surrounded by woodland - the whole area covers approximately 14 hectares.
A well-defined trail borders the pond. Although there are little paths leading off the main trail, taking you to the edge of the pond, it is forbidden to leave the main trail between March 1st and August 1st as this is the nesting period for some of the wildlife with habitats in the reserve.
In 1972, work was carried out which resulted in the creation of two small islands and a moat to regulate the water level. In 1973, Gouille Marion was classified a nature reserve.
113 species of birds, 5 species of amphibians and 17 species of dragonflies have been observed at this pond as well as the collar snake. The pond is also a water point for deer, wild boar, foxes and squirrels.

Threatened by quarrying, it was donated to the Vaudois Society of Natural Sciences by Mr. F. Bungener and was later classified by both Vaudois and Geneva authorities.

Saconnex d'Arve TowerThe tower is a surviving fragment of a former castle, built between 1299 and 1301 by the count of Geneva Amédée II.
The castle originally had four towers but over the centuries, having gone through wars and the fire, the other three disappeared.
At the top of the tower is a cast-iron virgin said to have come from the church of Compesières.
The tower is located on private property, and thus can only be viewed from the nearby walking path Sentier Sous-la-Tour.
