This village was founded by Baron Aymon II of Faucigny in the middle of the 12th century.
In 1355, following a war between the Counts of Geneva and the Counts of Savoy, the barony of Faucigny was conceded to the house of Savoy. In 1792 during the French Revolution, French troops entered the area, created the department of Léman and gave Hermance civil status.
Years later, as a result of the signing of the Treaty of Turin on March 16, 1816, Hermance was ceded by Savoy and reunited with the Canton of Geneva.
Hermance is listed on the Swiss Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites as a site of national importance.
