Dardagny's history dates back to the Neolithic period, with an axe found on-site. The village's first mention as Dardaniacum was in 1309.
In 1536, it became part of the Geneva republic. The estate passed through several hands, including the Vasserot family in 1721, who transformed the castle into a grand 18th-century structure. After changing ownership, the commune acquired the castle in 1904, preventing its demolition.
The village won the Wakker Prize in 1978 for its preservation and joined Les Plus Beaux Villages de Suisse in 2021.
Dardagny is listed on the Swiss Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites as a site of national importance.
